This Original Irish seascape painting Rainbow Tide is a pastel painting. I love using pastels, there are so many pastel techniques you can use on the one painting.
Watching the light dance along the waves on a sunny day at Kilmurrin Cove was a delight that day. There were a couple of young surfers catching the clean waves. Its a small cove which makes it perfect for learning to surf. I took so many beautiful shots that day.
The colours of the moving water and where the light and shadow catch the waves can range from a light yellowy green to deep blues depending on where you look. As the wave breaks on the shore the water takes on hues of purple and the wet sand turns reddish-brown. I love to try capture this, especially in pastel. I love when the skies are clear and blue – the waves take on a kaleidoscope of colours.
Kilmurrin Cove is a beautiful little beach along the Copper Coast, Co.Waterford. When approaching Kilmurrin from the left the road gives way to its beautiful position at base of a hill where the road hugs this little cove doubling back on itself before ascending to the top of the hill and on along the Copper Coast – it’s a lovely sight that gladdens the heart!
